In January 2007 I received the proceeds of a new mortgage from Home Trust leaving me with $60,000 and a Visa Gold in the amount of $15,000 totaling $75,000. While the proceeds were being processed I received notice that a lien had been placed on my property for the purpose stopping the mortgage proceeding so that my estranged wife whom I had not seen or heard from for 4 years could try and make claim for the monies even though she was not on title of this home. As a result of her action against my house the mortgage was deemed defective and I was forced to retain a lawyer to have this situation resolved. During the legal proceeding it was recommended that I give back the $50,000 cheque (willingly) which was in my possession so that the mortgage could be registered, give $15,000 to the ex wife and leave the remaining $30,000 in trust so that she would be able to have her say in divorce court and with the advise of my mortgage lawyer I agreed.
As a result of meeting the mortgage lawyer I was introduced to his family and was given the opportunity to help his mother repair some mistakes made by contractors to her home and so I took that job in the Kerrisdale area as a favor to my lawyer for his generosity while helping me through the signing of my mortgage. This was to be my very first contract with my newly incorporated papers signed and I was feeling very proud to have finally accomplished this at 54 yrs of age. During the process of helping his mother with the renovation in her home, much stress grew between myself and her husband who was very much a violent tempered man. I found myself in the middle of a situation where my lawyers mother had asked me for help as she was being beaten by her husband and I did what I thought to be right and got the police involved which resulted in me being punched in the face causing an emergency visit to the surgeon regarding my inner eye / retina, an arrest was made and needless to say the renovation contract ended.
While I was working in this house in Kerrisdale I received a call from my tenant at my home in Surrey regarding a ladder going up to the tenants window in the back of my house and I immediately dropped what I was doing, called the RCMP and went to protect my home. According to the neighbors, 2 men were witnessed breaking into my house but had met my Great Dane/Bulldog and were attacked and then turned away from making their way through the walls of the upper tenants suite into my main living area. Blood was found on the scene indicating that they had been bitten. As a result of their break-in they completely robbed the tenants suite which included all of his possessions even his clothing / laundry. The RCMP attended the scene and witnesses were interviewed and a file no: was given.
